Oxidation

Why has my foam turned yellow?

Oxidation is a reaction in which an atom (or a group of atoms) lose electrons. The main causes of the discoloration is gas-induced, heat, and UV light exposure. So as your foam sits in your home, it begins to discolor and looks yellow. Foams that have been dyed with darker hues mask this so that the discoloration is not as noticeable.

Is it harmful?

When people email us asking about this topic, safety is usually the crux of the matter. So, let us put your mind at ease: Oxidiation is not harmful and does not affect the longevity of your foam. Honestly, aside from being ugly, it does not really have any affect on your foam. So if you notice this while switching out a layer, fear not! It's normal.
